MICHAEL MCCABE OF SANTA FE, NM,  IN OJAI—SPOTTED DOG STUDIO – OCTOBER – 2011

MICHAEL WILL MAKE HIS 7^TH VISIT TO OJAI THIS FALL.  HE IS AN EXPERIENCED TEACHER AND PRINTMAKER, RUNNING HIS OWN PRINT STUDIO IN SANTA FE, NM.  HE WORKED AS A MASTER PRINTER FOR HAND GRAPHICS IN ALBEQUERQUE, NM, FOR MANY YEARS.  HE HAS BEEN A PRINTMAKING INSTRUCTOR FOR MAKING ART SAFELY, OF SANTA FE.

EXPLORATIONS IN MONOTYPE AND SOLARPLATE—OCTOBER 11-15 – 9 AM -5PM EACH DAY

JOIN MICHAEL AS HE DAZZLES US WITH HIS KNOWLEDGE OF THE MANY WAYS OF USING MONOTYPE AND SOLARPLATE.  TECHNIQUES EXPLORED WILL INCLUDE INK CHEMISTRY, CHINE COLLE, GUM TRANSFER, STENCILS, DIRECT TRANSFER AND MORE.  SOLARPLATES WILL BE CREATED AND USED IN COMBINATION WITH THE ABOVE PROCESSES. BOTH AKUA INKS AND OIL BASE INKS WILL BE USED IN NON TOXIC TECHNIQUES. 

WORKSHOP FEE- $600 – INCLUDES ALL INKS, INK ADDITIVES, CLEANING SUPPLIES AND 2 SOLARPLATES

PRINT PAPER AND SOLARPLATES WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE AT THE STUDIO AT COST OR YOU MAY BRING YOUR OWN PAPERS/SOLARPLATES/ETCHING PLATES/ COLLAGRAPH PLATES

VISCOSITY MONOTYPE – OCTOBER 17-21

MICHAEL WILL TEACH A VARIETY OF VISCOSITY TECHNIQUES USING AKUA INKS AND/OR OIL BASE INKS IN NON TOXIC METHODS, COMBINING THE VISCOSITY PROCESS WITH CHINE COLLE, STENCILS, DIRECT TRANSFER AND MORE.  MICHAEL IS AN EXPERT WITH THE VISCOSITY PROCESS, AND NEVER FAILS TO DAZZLE US WITH HIS COMMAND OF INK CHEMISTRY AND THE INTERACTION OF INK ON PAPER. 

WORKSHOP FEE - $575 – INCLUDES ALL INKS, INK ADDITIVES, CLEANING SUPPLIES AND THE USE OF ALL STUDIO EQUIPMENT.

PRINT PAPER WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE AT THE STUDIO AT COST OR YOU MAY BRING YOUR OWN.  

TRADITIONAL ETCHING WITH ZINC PLATES AND NITRIC ACID- OCTOBER 23-25

MICHAEL WILL TEACH A REVIEW CLASS ON TRADITIONAL ETCHING PROCESSES.  INCLUDED WILL BE AQUATINT, OPEN BITE, LINE ETCHING AND WAYS TO INK ETCHING PLATES TO REALIZE THE FULL POTENTIAL OF THE IMAGE. SOME EXPERIENCE WITH ETCHING IS HELPFUL, BUT NOT REQUIRED.

WORKSHOP FEE - $375 – INCLUDES ALL INKS, ONE ZINC PLATE, AND SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR THIS PROCESS

LOCATED IN BEAUTIFUL DOWNTOWN OJAI, SPOTTED DOG HAS 3 LARGE FORMAT PRESSES AND ONE SMALL PRESS FOR USE BY WORKSHOP PARTICIPANTS.  EACH CLASS IS LIMITED TO 8, SO AMPLE WORK SPACE IS AVAILABLE.  THE STUDIO IS LOCATED AT A HOME, WITH BEAUTIFUL GARDENS AND WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE TO RESTAURANTS AND MOTELS.  PLEASE VISIT

News from the Northwest-Donna Carver

Come on down to Historic Gig Harbor WA. on July 16th and 17th to enjoy the 27th Annual Gig Harbor Art Festival Sponsored by Peninsula Art League. The entire length of Judson Street , in historic Gig Harbor, will be closed off and open only to pedestrian traffic. Over 110 artists , which have been juried in, will be displaying and selling their original art.

Donna Carver will be showing her art in Peninsula Art League's Tent as well in the PAL Summer Juried Art Show, sponsored by Key Bank.

Inkspots at EP Foster Library thru July 29th

The Inkspots, Ventura's only fine art printmaking group, are exhibiting
their work at the E.P. Foster Library.

The exhibit will run from May 2nd through July 29th.

The Library is loated at 651 E. Main Street
and is open Mon.-Thurs. 10-8, Fri. & Sat. 10-5, and Sunday from 1-5pm.
